FOLKDOCS+

The Story

What began as a summer student project creating short videos about international folk dance festivals is now an endeavor to immerse San Francisco State students into professional storytelling. Folkdocs+ matches students with award-winning SF State alums, such as Jeremiah Ysip, in an intensive, top-level, 360º production experience.

[Folkdocs+] did make me feel confident in being capable of leading a production and coming up with a campaign. [This] experience taught me a lot of valuable skills I wouldn’t have been able to learn from a regular class.

From the technical skills that you will have a chance to work on, to the network that surrounds the staff, and to the resources at your disposal, this is one of the greatest BECA programs that a student could be a part of.

This experience has broadened my perspective, revealing the unique storytelling potential of documentaries. The skills I acquired during the documentary production, particularly in music for visual media and audio production for interviews, have significantly contributed to my proficiency in this aspect of my career.
